Darrell House is a children’s author/poet/storyteller/singer/songwriter/musician/recording artist, and his love for the lyrics and melodies of folk & acoustic music of the 60’s and 70’s has become the foundation for a lifetime of performances. His deep mellow voice and fluent guitar styles have made him a standout performer in S. Florida for more than 40 years, and during the last twenty+ years he has dedicated his creative energies to writing music, poetry and stories for kids and families.
An author who visits schools and libraries, nationwide, his picture books, Miller the Green Caterpillar and The King Of Fish, encourage kids to set goals and work to achieve their dreams while his hit children’s CDs, Underneath the Cushions on the Couch and Makes Me Feel Like Singing, have received rave reviews in newspapers and national magazines.
The Parents’ Choice Foundation honored his 2010 collection of original, humorous poetry, Speed-B-B-B-Bumps, with their Gold Award. The King of Fish was recognized as The 2012 Best Published Children’s Picture Book by The Florida Writers Association in their annual Royal Palm Literary Awards. (Watch Darrell tell the story. It’s on the Videos page) His most recent work is an early reader chapter book called Bennie & Bonnie. It earned Third Place Honors in its genre in the 2015 Royal Palm Literary Awards.
Being curious about all the talk surrounding electronic publishing, and always wanting to learn, Darrell recently experimented with that new technology. Now, the latest addition to his works are the EBook children’s short stories, The Shadow Who Stole the Whistle and The Man Who Could Fix Anything. They are currently available through online retailers www.Smashwords.com and www.BarnesandNoble.com.
Darrell has two daughters, Emily and Jessica, and five grandchildren, Olivia, Avery, Dawson, Lucas and Arrica. His love of family is genuine and comes straight from the heart.
