Darrell
House is a 56 year old singer/songwriter/author/recording artist, and his love for the lyrics and

have made him a standout performer in
New... New...New... OK... I'm always the last to arrive at the party, so I am experimenting with a BLOG!!! Visit http://darrellhouse.blogspot.com/ to see what I think about that. Extra... Extra... Read all about it!!! Saturday, April 28th at the Main Library in downtown Ft. Lauderdale, was an evening of storytelling, under the stars with 4 nationally known professionals plus music from Darrell. Staying with the theme of the evening, he picked special "story" songs from the likes of Harry Chapin, Gordon Lightfoot, Jerry Jeff Walker, Jim Croce and Michael Smith.
Here's a picture from that night...
On to the recorded music... You can hear samples of all the songs on both of Darrell's CD's at CD Baby... click the link http://www.cdbaby.com and put his name in the search box...
"Nicely constructed,
positive and upbeat folksy songs that feel like a day in the park with the wind
in your hair and the sun on your face." John Wood, Kidzmusic.com. Hear Darrell's hit song "Underneath the Cushions on the Couch"

...So what are people saying about the new CD? Take a bit of Burl Ives, mix in a touch of Jimmy Buffett, add a generous helping of funny upbeat tunes and whadya get? Darrell House in the House! You won't only feel like singing, you'll be singing along on every song!" John Wood, Kidzmusic.com.
May 2nd, 2008 this email came in from a total stranger. It was too good not to share with all my friends. When things like this happen, it makes me understand why I really do what I do... DKH
Darrell,
So I'm at the library looking at CD's for my new
little boy, 4 months now, because I don't sing nearly as well as his dad. I
don't know a thing about kids music, can only remember the first verse to
most songs. How's a girl to choose which CD to check out?.... Cover Art!
That's what I was using as my guide today. I see your Makes Me Feel Like
Singing and I think to myself "oh how cute, a Jimmy Buffet for babies."
I checked out ten CD's today and when I put
yours in my baby felt like singing, and drooling, and jumping and dancing.
He was SOOOOO happy to hear your songs, as was I. Your CD was the only one
to elicit such a response in the both of us. I feel like I could listen to
this one over and over again without the urge to hurt myself. Some of the
other ones.....I don't want to get into it.
Naturally I wanted to find out more about you so
with the use of good old google I found your site, discovered you're here in
FL (I got the CD at the Broward County Library) and that you are a local
favorite. Just wanted to let you know that you are now one of my and
Cisco's favorites too.
Thank you for putting out such a fun, upbeat,
sing along album! I look forward to checking out your other stuff too.
Warmly,
Agatha
I may have received reviews from institutions with more literary recognition, but none have ever made me feel better than this... DkH
I think there should be a warning label on Darrell House's new CD: CAUTION! These tunes are addictive and likely to get stuck in your brain for days on end." Just when I think he can't get any better, Mr. House comes up with a new song. All I'm sure of is this: Darrell House's music ALWAYS makes me feel like singing!!! - Katy Mullon, Special Events Coordinator for Youth Services, Broward County Library, Ft. Lauderdale
"Here is an album parents will love as much as the kids. Darrell House will have every generation bouncing in their car seats, dancing in the parking lots!" - Carolyn Howard - Johnson, author of three award-winning books, THIS IS THE PLACE, HARKENING and THE FRUGAL BOOK PROMOTER, and grandmother of three. In Fresno, California, the WebMama reviews children's music and literature. Check out her comments on both CD's and Miller the Green Caterpillar... http://fresnofamily.com/music/musicreviews1.htm

Amelia Island -7th annual Book Festival, October 5-7, 2007 http://www.bookisland.org/authors.htm (click authors & guests, then children and young adult) Darrell House I wanted to thank you for coming to the Amelia Island Book Festival again this year. It was such a pleasure having you back. As always, you were energetic, enthusiastic and flexible. Your ability to go with the flow and work with changes or improvise when needed is such an asset to our festival, as it would be for any festival or event. Of course, even when we were temporarily under a deluge of rain, you smiled and laughed. I am sure you must know the positive impact your outlook has on those around you. The children all love your books and CD’s. When you perform at our festival, it’s always the same. There is a sense of uplifting energy and the festival takes on a whole different feeling. It is a pleasure and an honor to have such a wonderful author and entertainer participate in our program. Your professionalism, enthusiasm and flexibility make you a treasure at our festival. Thanks again, Darrell. We hope to see you on the book island again next year. Maria Murphy, Children’s Chapter Co-Chair

6/05 at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan where Darrell signed copies of Miller the Green Caterpillar at Book Expo America for Biblio Book Distributors
Can you guess what was cooking at the Boca Raton Library this summer? (It was WORD SALAD!!!)
November 16th, 17th & 18th, 2005, Darrell performed at Hawkes Bluff Elementary in Broward County, Fl. The students made this 36 foot long Miller the Green Caterpillar, and all 1100 students signed it. Deborah Sheats, principal at Hawkes Bluff wrote - "When your visit was scheduled, we had no idea how dynamic and powerful your program would be. It is my pleasure to recommend you as an outstanding author/performer. You are now a celebrity of our students and your performances demonstrated the importance of reading and pursuing your dreams. Any school would be blessed to have you as a performer at their school. You truly touched the lives of our students and we thank you. We now believe in the beauty of our dreams!" Go Hawkes!!! On November 13th & 14th, 2007, He made a return visit. It was too cool. First graders from '05 were now 3rd graders, and 3rd graders from '05 were now 5th graders. It was a very special reunion with a school that has earned a very special place in Darrell's heart, (as well as a soft spot in his head!!!)
April 2006 kicked off with concerts for the "Nuggets" at Nob Hill Elementary School in Sunrise, Florida. This is the school where a lot of Darrell's material was created, including Miller the Green Caterpillar and Speed-b-b-b-bumps!!!
He entertained the whole school and led The Pledge of Allegiance on the morning announcements from their in-house television station, WNHL. Here's a poem he wrote for the school back in the early 90's. Nob Hill Nuggets, I'm told, are intellectually bold. They're sure to excel as they factor and spell, cause each Nugget's more precious than gold.
The final shows for 2005 - 2006 school year were at Everglades Elementary School in Weston, Florida. Media Specialist Sandra Goldglantz had this to say: > After last year's fiasco, I was skeptical as to who we should

There's nothing like having the Principal
say nice things about you...
Did I mention Principals saying nice things about you???
VSY Principal, Mark Strauss, Broward County School's Principal of the year for the 2007 - 2008 school year said... "Because of your creativity and energy, students at the school have become inspired to become authors and song writers themselves. They are taking pen to paper and are allowing their creative energies to flow. Students are humming your tunes as they work throughout the day and everyone comments fondly about the time you spent with us. Your talents are truly amazing and inspiring."
